No, Big C, it is a timber or canebrake rattlesnake...11 rattles on his tail. I snuck up and counted them while he was snoring.

The only poisionous snaked I've ever seen in NC is a copperhead, which my dog proceeded to kill. Somehow, most dogs are affected little by copperhead bites.
I think the only likelyhood of actually seeing a snake in your yard is in a new subdivision where the woods have been replaced by neighborhoods. There are some other snakes, common garden, black, etc, but they just don't affect anything.
Of course, I've always had a dog, and perhaps that keeps them away from the house.

The poisonous ones I've run across are:
-Cottonmouth/Water moccasin
-Copperhead
-Diamondback rattler
All of those were in South Carolina. Since I've lived in Greensboro, I haven't seen a snake, a spider, or a cockroach. I do see lots of rabbits, though.
None of these snakes are really aggressive. If you try to pick one up, or just get too close to one, then they will bite you. The rattler is less of a threat because you can hear his rattles shaking when you're around. It's hard to accidentally step on one. If you're in the swamp, the water moccasin has a bad habit of falling out of trees into your boat. Fortunately I've never had this happen. The copperhead is often considered the most dangerous - because if you're walking around in the woods, they will freeze. They can become very difficult to spot, and people often step on them because of this.
I think there are coral snakes too, but I've never seen one. I do remember: "Red on yellow, kill a fellow; Red on black, friend to Jack." The coral snake is basically a type of cobra, and can kill a person pretty easily. Good thing I've never seen one.

Most newer subdivisions prohibit snakes in their condo documents as do the Condo Associations in Florida do with regard to Alligators and the Florida Panther.

I've only lived here in NC (Summerfield, NW of Greensboro) for one week now and I've seen 3 snakes. One was coiled up in the road that I ran over (accidentally), another one on the side of the road, coiled up also, but I spared him , and one in my yard, but it was really small, and I know nothing about snakes, except to run them over, but it was small, skinny and brownish color. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How new are you talking about, were looking at buys a place in Cameron built in 93 is that old enough that they should kind of be gone. I realize it being on 1 acre and with trees behind the house ups the chance of me seeing them outside, but would rather not see them too close to the house. Thankfully if we do get this house a dog if the first thing on our list to get lol.

Snakes In N.C
Hi everyone,
There are 4 snakes in N.C that is posenous and can kill you. They are the Rattlesnake, Copperhead, Cottonmouth, and Coral snake.
In the mountains where I'm from the Andrews in Cherokee Co.,N.C. The snakes that you will find up there is the rattlesnake and the copperhead that you have to worry about.
The Pietmont and Sandhills areas are the some. It's the rattlesnake and the copperhead there.
It's in the coast are of our state that you will aminly if always find the cottonmouth and the coral snake at.
I feel that we should not kill the snakes if we can help it unless a person, child or animal is in danger of being bit. We do need them. If not we would be overrun with mice, rats and moles and other critters.
I hope that I have been some help with that.
