Default Husband at Ft. Lee, studying at Duke

Hi all,

We're looking for a midway point between Ft. Lee (Petersburg, VA) and Duke (Durham, NC). We both expect to drive about an hour, and maybe one of us will drive longer. Any ideas? We've been thinking about Henderson, NC and South Hill, VA.

No kids, so public schools aren't an issue. We just want some place safe where we can go out for dinner if we want to without too much of an issue.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
TwoPlusCat

I don't think it's going to be possible to get an hour's commute in each direction. You definitely want to stay on the I-85 corridor, possibly somewhere like South Hill, VA or Henderson, NC. Wherever you go in that vicinity is going to be pretty rural. South Hill is probably an hour from Petersburg and an hour and a half to Durham. It's a really small town for sure.

Henderson, NC is going to be the opposite, 1 hour to Durham and 1.5 to Petersburg. Henderson is a much larger town than South Hill. Keep in mind though that those times are representative of town center to town center. Your mileage may vary (pardon the pun).
