Now with that information provided to you...can you please quick bringing up Trader Joes and Fish Tacos...or I must insist that when your family members come out to see you....they must also provide me with some of my food requests too.
Now why is tri tip not something found in most stores? It's steak isn't it? So I would think it would be sold in most grocery stores. I know they have the packaged and marinated trip tip at Costco. Our friends from CA who are now in Waxhaw served this to us for dinner on one of our trips out there.

Tri-tip is/was a cut of meat that was popular with us westeners. When we first arrived a couple of years ago we would ask for it everywhere...we were either met with a stare from the butchers...or told "oh you must be from CA". That is why we were so excited to find it at Earth Fare....now it appears that it must be catching on....and I need to go speak to our Harris Teeter butcher again over here in SC.

Bummer. We found it at the Harris Reeters in Mooresville on Williamson rd.
We actually bought a bunch of it and brought it out with us. Our travel trailer has a freezer so it was great. Then we go to Harris Teeters and was looking to buy some steak not expecting to find it and it was like- OMG!!! So now we have everything we want exept Casa Sanchez Salsa that is my favorite

a1m1700 We have a choice between the Raleigh or Charlotte. After I visit we are strongly leaning towards Raleigh. North Raleigh to be specific. My Dh is in the environmental field. leehana I too am a SAHM and have been for the past 12 1/2 years. our kids are almost identical in age mine are boy 12 1/2 boy 10 and girl almost 8. OUr goals as far as home purchases and visits back to CA sound the same. ALL our family is here and so we hope to be able to visit them and them us at least a couple times per year. We just returned from a 5 week vacation all throughout the East coast and can't wait to have everything so wonderful in such close proximity as far as weekend trips! Have both of you decided where you want to live?

MoveMe about the humidity....we just returned from back there. In Charlotte & Raleigh we did not find the humidity/heat to be bad at all. Know that we are currently living in a hot CA climate. We ventured to Charleston SC and it was definitely "sticky" there but not so unbearable that we couldn't walk the town and see the sites. Myrtle Beach was humid too. Really though we find it much hotter and harder to bear here where we are currently living. We decided that the South talks up the heat to keep people out LOL!
I noticed you could stand outside and chat even though it was hot and when you got in your car after it was parked in the sun for awhile the car cooled down quickly......here the car takes forever to cool down. While we were there they were saying it was about as hot as it gets and we were under a heat wave! I think it was about 96 and 60% humidity or more. Big thunder storms as well. We loved it! BTW 117 here on Saturday and 105 today and my AC is broken repairman is on his way!

I realize it is originally a San Francisco bread, but I guess I just naively assumed it was sold everywhere. I don't expect to find Tri Tip meat, but I never would have thought about sourdough bread leaving my diet too!!! Aggh. I thought giving up Trader Joes, great burritos, fish tacos, and Tri Tip was bad enough. Now sourdough too?! I do have to say the BBQ is great here, so it is helping me get over my other food obsessions ; )
OOOOH....Trader Joes!! Gawd how I miss it!! I'm from San Diego and use to go there at least once a week. I miss carne asada burritos from the lil taco shops too........I live in Texas now and the mexican food just isn't the same. It's the first meal I have when visiting SD!!

I am right outside of Winston-Salem and love it! I have only been here a month, but I honestly think people are trying to keep us away by the humidity and bug comments!!! I don't find it that bad at all. Now, I have grown up quite spoiled on the beach in SoCal, but I am really trying to keep an open mind and it hasn't been hard at all. If you are working in the yard, you get soaking wet in sweat. However, just sitting on the porch or walking around hasn't been that horrible and actually pretty nice. I do have to use the AC during the day, but I really don't think it has been too shocking to my system. There are pros and cons to every location and the cons of SoCal have made a few extra bugs and some stickier weather seem fine since I have a great house that I would never in a million years been able to purchase back in SoCal. The one thing I plan on doing right away is getting some screens on my windows. It doesn't seem like too many people have them or open their windows around here. I think the weather is nice in the morning and in the evenings, so I plan on opening some windows!

Good to know about the tri tip and sourdough. I haven't seen either in my stores, but then again, I haven't searched really hard either. I got my fix on all of my favorite foods right before I moved, so I am not dying quite yet.....

Where in NC are you? I'll fill you in on some of my favorite North Raleigh restaurants!

Vicki
I just had BBQ again tonight! I plan on getting more this week. It is very good. Tri Tip is beef and it is the main meat served at CA BBQ's. I really like the coleslaw here too.

Are you familiar with Winston-Salem? I was trying to find good restaurants and as you can tell, I have only discovered my local BBQ place.
