NC Unemployment question
Hi-
I started collecting unemployment in January 09. Let's say, for example, I'm collecting $300 every two weeks. If I get a job, and make $300 every two weeks (just using this as an example to make things easier), I understand that I can still file a claim every week (correct?)...and that they take out dollar for dollar what I'm making (off of the $300 I earn in unemployment). So in this case, I wouldn't receive anything from unemployment for that two week period.
Now fast forward, say 3 months, let's say that job falls through. Can I go back to collecting unemployment that's based on the $300 from the first company? And if so, for how long?
Thanks, CDE

My boyfriend has been collecting since January also. Unemployement allows him to make 88 dollars a week...if he goes over that... they deduct it from his weekly benefit. Example: his benefit is 400 per week he is allowed 88.. he works p/t at walmart..makes 123 there a week...they deduct the difference 30 dollars. I hope this makes sense.

If the job falls through then yes, you just pick up where you left off. You get paid up to the time frame you were originally approved through.

The only positive about making more than what your allowed is that you "bank" the unemployment for down the road if you need to collect later on (or you're out of extensions)

Thanks for the replies that have been given.
Won't Unemployment people question why you are no longer at the new job?

I would think that the only reason you could continue to collect was if the new job, fired you, laid you off, etc. I don't believe you can quit the new job and receive your benefits. That's how it was in FL.

Since the OP seemed to get thier answer, can I piggyback another question?
My Wife got laid off in December. She worked at home, for the same Company she worked for in SoFla. Her pay came from Florida, and she did not pay NC taxes. Now she cant collect unemployment from either State??? Any suggestions?

Is the job part-time or full-time? You can make a certain designated amount for a part-time job, declare it in your weekly sign-in, and anything over that allowed amount would be deducted. I don't know though if that is before taxes or after taxes. I'd have to ask one of the people who is working part-time and earning some extra money to declare.

You should find out where the company is located and whether or not it paid Unemployent Insurance taxes. It should have paid them to your state, but if it did not, it might have considered your wife an independent contractor employee. If so, she is responsible for paying her own taxes and if so, she is not eligible for u.c. unfortunately.
good luck
