LOVE yours of Grandfather Mountain!
Ah. I posted before you put up the caption... LOL

Just looks really rugged for the eastern part, but Linville Gorge is the deepest gorge east of the Rockies. If I remember correctly.

And thank you.

You remember correctly And yes, it is VERY rugged there - people have been known to go missing there for days. This picture is taken on the east side of the gorge. On the west side there is actually a state park where you can access the BEAUTIFUL falls waaaayyyyy at the bottom.

VERY wide panoramic of Hickory Nut Gorge from Chimney Rock. The actual rock. I think... Somewhere up there. Anyway, I could have edited it more but I didn't want to chop everything off the bottom. I'll have to go back up with a tripod and do a better job framing each picture, maybe when the leaves finish coming out.

I have yet to see the falls. Been through there plenty of times but never stopped. Sounds like it's time for a road trip!

These pictures are amazing. Can someone tell me where Grandfather Mountain is? I was just in NC for a few days and hardly touched on all that's out there. I really feel I need to return and do more exploring. It's hard work getting to know an area.

Artie, there are truly SO many amazingly beautiful places in NC - I have been exploring the state for 18 years and still manage to find new things to enjoy all the time

Grandfather Mt. is off the Blue Ridge Parkway between the little towns of Linville and Blowing Rock. A definite must-see about 2.5 hours from Charlotte.
