Homeowners Ins
We have discussed auto ins comparisons, I was curious about HO ins...I live on L.I...(if everybody doesn't already know) My home is about 2000-2500 sq feet, 4 bed 2-bath...I do a get discount since I use same carrier for auto, I do have some jewelery riders but I pay about $1250 p/year...

Homeowners insurance in NC is some of the highest; most likely because after Texas; NC is the most natural-disaster-prone state.

Jump over to the Florida board for some good insurance stories. TX is the worst, surprisingly followed by OK, LA and then FL. I don't remember NC being top 10 unless you're talking Outer Banks. I called fishing around for rates and average around the Charlotte area is $500ish for full homeowners on a $300k house.

I would assume give the earthquakes in the west and the coastal areas of Fl and LA, NC is not a high disater state...in fact, a lot of companies move their data centers to NC because it IS NOT a high area for disaster....and that is a fact!

and you wanted a link? Here: http://dwb.newsobserver.com/news/ncw...-9394849c.html
To quote that article;
Quote:
Southeast coastal states - from Texas across to Virginia - are most prone to billion-dollar disasters, according to the National Weather Service. Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama have averaged nearly one major natural disaster a year for the past 25 years - highest in the country.

I'm not out to get NC, it's just a fact; chill out.

I;m informed, I do not doubt what the weather service says nor do I think you are out to get NC...I just know a lot of tech companies and many infact, have date center in NC as they are safe areas...understand when a company stores data via computer, they usually have several Off Site areas that keep data in the event a disaster hits...The company my husband use to work for kept theirs at the WTC - natural disasters are not the only things companies worry about..many NY co's have data centers in NJ...most, have several.
