Are most of the elected officials native Carolinas/southerers?

True. He is a former elected official. And true, he did lose NC (although I wonder how a VP nominee can win a state ).

But Edwards, like most people who undertake causes for the "least of these" are usually less popular and a threat to the selfish, greedy, and indifferent status quo (not that you and I fit that definition, mm )

If he runs again, I'll support him.

The idea is that the VP nominee will bring something to the campaign that the presidential nominee can not. In the 2004 election, it was thought Edwards would bring in a few Southern states. That's how Lyndon Johnson ended up on the ticket in 1960. Kennedy could not have been elected without a few states in the South and Johnson, being from Texas, delivered. The Democrats can not continue to ignore the South election after election anymore.

Bingo. It probably should have been reversed, quite possibly if Edwards had one the democratic nomination the democrats would have had a chance. A non-southern democrat hasn't won since Kennedy (and that a loooong time).
