Default Car inspection!!

So...I forgot to get my April car inspection and I'm going out of town tomorrow. When i get back it will be May. Will I get a fine if I get it done in May? I need to renew my registration, too. Yikes!!

Your vehicle registration will be automatically blocked on May 1. This means that you must get your vehicle inspected or face a potential $50 penalty.

If you are visiting a state that has an emissions program, have your vehicle tested and send your passing results to NC-DMV. If the state does not have an emissions program, a one year exemption can be received from NC-DMV. Contact NC-DMV Headquarters for additional information on out-of-state renewals at (919) 715-7000.

My inspection expired May last year. My registration renewed in July. Didnt realize inspection expired 2 months before the registration. Took it in in July- they inspected it and backdated it to May. No Fine. No muss. No fuss.

Seems different for motorcycles this year. Our bikes were due to be inspected by April 1st but, because of schedules and weather, we weren't able to get to the shop until 4/16. My tags had actually expired in March . That was a stressful ride - I can't believe how many police cars we passed. Any other day and there wouldn't have been any Anyway, we get to the shop and go through inspections, all the paperwork is done and I see the fellow pecking away at the terminal in the back of the office. With a *whoosh* of relief we head towards town and the License and Registration office. Galloping into the office, I slam down the paperwork and rush out "sorry our tags have expired it's been raining and we weren't able to get out for inspections *gasp*". The clerk looks at me mildly and says "oh, the state has some sort of glitch in the system. You don't have to worry about the inspections requirement to obtain tags until next year." Me: AAAAAUGHHH!

No you won't. Just do it when you get back. It takes longer than that to get fined or anything. You will be fine.

You got a pass of about 9 months, scrap your existing sticker off and get it inspected next June.

One of my vehicles had tag and inspection due June 2009. Renewed the tag online when it came in May, and when the new sticker came the new card said it inspection was now due June 2010. Called a friend that manages a dealership service dept, and he confirmed that I should just scrap the old one off and get it done next year.
