NC going 100% smokefree-JAN. 2nd 2010!!
Well, it is official... the great state of NC will be going smokefree in ALL bars and restaurants on Jan. 2nd, 2010! This decision for me personally, makes living here that much sweeter.. I just want to say thank-you to all the people on every level who made this possible. No more innocent children or non-smokers will be subjected to second and/or third hand smoke! Finally, I will bet my money that bars and restaurants across the state will see an increase in business once the ban becomes effective.

THANK GOODNESS! On our first "house hunting" trip there last month we ate out for each meal and I could hardly breathe, even in the non-smoking section. I'd gotten so used to being smoke-free in IL that I'd forgotten how bad it smelled.
This is very nice to hear! Thanks for posting the info.

I'm glad too. I FINALLY quit several months ago after smoking for over 20 years and am really looking forward to living life fully smoke free in NC.

none of you get it - do you?
How far do we let the government control us with legislation? Do ANY OF YOU know that we have more laws controlling us than Communist Hungary ever had?
Apparently; you do not give a care about anything that represents TRUE EQUALITY - it's your way or the highway ....
You have lost more than your intelligence allows you to realize.

Oh Ducky...I don't disagree that their is plenty of legislation at every level of governance that is utter garbage. But you're still free to smoke as much as you want--you just can't kill me along with yourself in a restaurant as you do it. There are also laws about seatbelts and not shooting people in the head--oh noes, the Commyists is comin' to save lives and what for to sap our precious bodily fluids!

don't talk down to me ... it makes you sound very little!
FYI - I quit smoking after MANY years of burning up money.
... but why force a business owner to conform to YOUR CHOICE?
There were MANY times I would eat in a non smoking restaurant and there were times it was UNACCEPTABLE.
just screw choice for commie sake ... not everyone is responsible enough for themselves - so make people bend to your whim ... whose whim is next?
I HOPE THE NEXT WHIM MAKES YOU MAD.

Agreed. Nobody's forcing anyone to work there or eat there. Let the smokers have their place.
And if the legislators want to say this is a public health issue, then they should just outlaw cigarettes in general and be done with it.
(And I'm also not a smoker.)

Personally; it looks to me like another thing is possibly at hand. This is why it disturbs me.
Look at the health risk as though this is the first time you heard of it.
It causes cancer. Right? - However; not all smokers get cancer from it

- Many non smokers get lung cancer

If Cancer were a REAL ISSUE to the government why is a drug for rheumatoid arthritis (swollen joints) acceptable when one of the KNOWN possible side effects are various forms of cancer?
Research the side effects of Humira and tell me how that chance to risk getting cancer is actually worse than pharmaceutical drugs that our government is supposed to be protecting us from?
Doesn't that strike you as odd? It sure does to me!
