The weekly WB TV series Dawson's Creek was filmed inWilmington and Southport. I loved that show. Many scenes were shot on the riverwalk in Wilmington and in the downtown areas of Wilmington and Southport. I recognized a lot from the show when we visited Wilmington 2 weeks ago.

Movies Filmed In NC
I believe The Crow was also filmed in NC (or some of it was). I think in/near Wilmington.

It is a great state with multiple terrain, weeather, old and new structures. I think we rank 3rd in movie production right behind California and New York.
I do know we have these small film festivals but I would like to see is one that is popular as the Sundance Festival. Asheville or Wilmington would be the ideal locations for it.

I saw A Good Baby on the Sundance Channel around four years ago and have been craving to visit Western North Carolina ever since.
