Default Salisbury

Hi-my husband and I may also move to Salisbury-I am only seeing messages of high crime rates and bad areas of salisbury to live in. Any good positive info on Salisbury? Would be working at the VA-any where near there that is within walking or bicycling distance to rent that is nice and safe? Any help appreciated.

Sorry for the delay Lolly....I just saw this post. I moved to Salisbury not long ago and I absolutely LOVE IT. I just cant say enough....last week we went exploring around statesville and concord, to the train museum...saturday morning to the farmers market, and so much more. The people here are awesome and yes there i was told of that crime problem too but i have yet to experience anything but good southern hospitality....If you can come here for a week or so and just drive around and explore. we did that and in every restaurant and every store we entered we asked about the area and all i was ever told was to avoid spencer, specifically east spencer. Noone that actually lives in Salisbury had much bad to say but they all were very welcoming and told us of lots to do. However, if you ask someone that doesnt live here, they all seem to have "lived here" once upon a time or they "have a friend or relative" that live here and they are always gettin mugged and beat up. I just dont see it. I have noticed an ever so slight racial divide but it seems to be more derived from uncertainty than fear or hate. Upon moving here, I immediately went to every neighbor and introduced myself and i say hello to everyone i come in contact with, regardless of color. I am white and have found that most african americans seem somewhat surprised that I say hello to them but they have all been friendly and cordial in return. We bought in meadowbrook, off statesville road between jake alexander and innes. This is a 50s neighborhood of ranch homes and most of the residents have lived here for 20+ years. I jog the streets and ride my bike. I sit on the porch after dark and have even been known to lay in the hammock in the middle of the night to look at the stars. I could never do that in Fl.

Best of luck to you

Bill

I do not think salisbury has a high crime rate, I dont feel. There is a BIG racial divide compared to other places I lived and I lived in the 7th largest city in the US for 22yrs. Like I told another person, if you are a white family, conservative and christian (is a plus) you will be fine. People like my family (multiracial) tend to take more time to adjust because of the racial and cultural division. But it is a quite place
