Question about moving and RN jobs
Hi, I am 23 am married and have 2 children, My wife is a stay at home mom/work 1 to 2 days a week for extra spending cash. I am a registered nurse with 2 years exp at the PCU level. We now live in PA and have been wanting to move south looked at FL but maybe too far south for us and RN's not treated well there so was wondering if anyone had some tips. I was looking at the Fayetteville area because it is close to some really nice golf courses. Besides jobs the next most things important are for me Golf and lots of it, and for my wife, shopping/pools/beach/things to keep the kids busy/good schools. Of course a couple of those I am interested in too especially the schools but first things first I have to get a good job. Just for reference in PA I am making around 25.50 with 2.30 dif for nights. Any hospitals paying more than that in NC.
thanks
Mitch

Just wanted to ask about First health of the Carolina's, seems like a nice place, and have heard that it pays well, any ideas on what kind of pay can be expected, if you are going to have to live in Pinehurst I am guessing quite a bit.

My wife was a nurse at FirstHealth for a couple of years. She made between $20-$22/hr depending on her position. She didn't work nights or weekends so I don't know about shift differentials. Benefits were decent too.

Hi Mitch,
You may want to consider somthing in or around the Charlotte, Nc area. The hospital systems such as Carolinas Medical Center and Presbyterian are the biggest in the area. CMC got rated top 10 best hospitals in the country about 3 times. some of the private medical practices are really big here as well. You are about 1-1/2 hr or so from the mountains and about 3 hrs or so from the beach. There is a great need here for RN nurses as well. you have alot more options.
I'm not sure about Fayettville. I believe there are some military bases around there but not much industry. I have some friends who are nurses here working for both hospitals and they like it alot.

Hey Mitch, I'm a male RN too living in PA and loooking to move to NC. I have been talking to some different travel nurse agencies. You may want to look into that. The pay is better and they cover lots of other costs like housing etc.

Thankyou for the info guys. What kind of wages at these hospitals can be expected, I either want to get into a post open heart surgery ICU or a float pull for medical/pcu floors.
Also I have gone with a travel company here in PA and have also thought about that. Not sure if they would help me and my family (wife 2 kids) get to NC as well.

My cousin works at Cape Fear Valley...when she was working med/surg (she's just switched to OB), she worked exclusively nights, sometimes worked charge, and worked every bit of overtime she could get (holidays, etc.) and pulled in $80K/yr.

Fayetteville is the place to be for a PA or in the medical service, you can probably find a job easily.

That pay rate for most of NC is right on target. I am assuming it will be very difficult to make $27+ unless you have year sof experience. Especially in the Fayetteville area.
Shopping- depending on what kind of stores she prefers to shop at, it is pretty limited here. The mall (Cross Creek) has a few shuttered stores. You can browse the mall directory from the main site. One plus is Raleigh's top mall (Crabtree Valley) is a much better choice, and it is less than an hours drive depending on what side of town you'll be living. I haven't been to any of the area pools, but I do know there are quite a few to choose from.
I have never been to Wilmington or the Outer Banks, so maybe someone can chime in there. Those are the closest beachs to Fayetteville, with Wilmington being 2 hours away. Personally I go to Myrtle Beach when my friends want to get away, but that is a bit farther.
