Don't be caught texting while driving!!
Just got the email (though I live in Virginia?) that NC lawmakers have passed a driver-texting ban.
Here's the article

GOOOOOOD DEAL. I swear me and my cousin we're on our way to Bristol, TN last month to see the NHRA race. We get on 40 and there is this girl texting while we pass her. Couple minutes later she speeds up, passes us and she is still texting. I say about 10 minutes later we come back up on this idiot and she is still texting. I was honestly hoping the good ole black and silver was going to tag her. Young girls are always on the phone around here. Hopefully law enforcement will get a little more strict on the matter.
Sorry this subject can frustrate the hell out of me. What happened to listening to music while driving? Damnit.

I'm so glad this was passed. I was in a bad wreck a few months ago, and the trooper said the guy who hit me was using the web browser on his phone and not paying attention to the road. His car pushed me into the oncoming lane, and I was hit by a truck - totaled car, couple broken bones, but thankful to be alive given the damage done.
I think we need a "distracted driving" law like some states have. Not only is texting banned, but so are things like reading the paper, applying makeup, shaving, and other things I've seen people do while driving [not sure if that includes DVDs playing with only a driver in the car, but that's a pet peeve of mine too].

Wow, nice post, glad to hear you are ok, (or at least well enough to post)
I must say I am guilty of occasionally texting while driving, or punching something into my GPS while driving. I've never had a closs call because of fumbling with electronic devices, but that may be more luck than I attribute it to my "good driving." Stories like this make me realize maybe I just run good when it comes to this and I should not text unless out of the car/stopped.

Now if they'll just actually enforce it. I was driving around I-540 on my commute home, and same thing, girl passing me, dropping back, passing me, dropping back, etc., because she was texting. A state trooper passes right by her WHILE SHE'S DOING IT, I can see that she's doing it, and ignores her. I know they can't catch everything, but this one was pretty blatant.

People are stupid. Common sense is sorely lacking in today's society.
As if anyone should have to tell someone else that texting while driving is dangerous, irresponsible and reckless. You would have thought such a concept to be blatantly obvious.
And quite frankily, cell phone dialing and cell phone usage falls under the same catagory. You can't be dialing or searching your cell's phonebook for the number you want to call, while driving. Hell, I could even understand someone doing it on a rare occassion, in either an emergency situation or a very important circumstance. Make a quick call and put the cell phone away.
But as usual people completely abuse and over-use it. I can't count how many times I've seen some jackass swirving down the road, while either reaching/or messing with their cell phone or preoccupied with their cell phone conversation and causing havoc on the road.

It hasn't been made a a law yet. The governor has to sign it, I'm sure she will. It is already illegal for drivers under 18.

so it now goes to Gov. Beverly Perdue, who will be asked to sign the bill into law. North Carolina would become the latest state to bar the practice
|
It too wonder if it will be enforced. Unfortunately I think that people will continue to put innocent people in danger because they can't put their phone down.
