Moving to Fayetteville and I need help!!!
Hi! My husband has been at Ft. Bragg for a year while I've been waiting in Houston for our house to sell. Looks like we've finally sold it, so I will be joining hubby in Fayetteville the end of May/beginning of June. I'm desperately trying to find a house to rent. We'll only be there for 1 1/2 to 2 years, so we don't want to buy another house. I've been trying to figure out the best elementary schools, and looking at the test scores, these are the ones I've found: Beaver Dam, Bill Hefner, District 7, Eastover, Honeycutt, Ed Baldwin, Rockfish and Stoney Point. It's been hard to find anything that looks decent in Honeycutt & Stoney Point areas (in our price range!). What about the others? The most houses I've found are in the Bill Hefner, Baldwin and Rockfish areas. Are the neighborhoods that correspond to these schools safe? I really want a family neighborhood where I'll feel safe and the kids can play outside........ ANY help would be appreciated!!! Thanks so much!

Robeson County Schools
I hear that Robeson County Schools exercise corporal punishment that on average one kid gets struck per day by an adult at school.
Just thot I'd pass it along, google a search on it and see what you get, it floored me.

If that's true, you might want to stay in Cumberland county, where Fayetteville is. Unless you are in favor of corporal punishment
Form what I know of Fayetteville, it is mostly made up of military families and lower income folks who have lived in the area for generations. There should be many options for rentals. I hope you husband can get out into the town to take a look at neighborhoods. He should have many friends who can help as well.
Hopefully someone who actually lives in/near there can chime in here?

Check out www.militarybyowner.com
they have homes for sale and homes for rent. Schools are listed in the listings.
Also, you can search for rentals only and search only in the schools you're interested in (good choices, btw) here
http://www.4fayettevillehomes.com/MLS.html
To choose more than one school or quality in a box hold the ctrl key as you click the ones you want. That's where I found my house when we moved here last summer (now the house is for sale on militarybyowner!)

To tell the truth, I'm not too jazzed about moving from the big city to Fayetteville. I've heard a lot of bad things about it....... This is our first move with the military, so I'm unsure about a lot of things. We're looking to live off post because my husband heard that the schools on base were not good. Anyone heard anything about that? It sure would make my life easier to live on post, but I don't want to live there if the schools are bad.

It's a military town, to be sure. I'd hate to see what would happen to Fayetteville if Ft. Bragg were ever significantly downsized. It will be a big change from Houston, but everything you need is there, and there will will be PLENTY of families around that are going through the exact same things that you are.
