we are looking at horse property in southern pines for a winter get away in a few years. any info would be great. we currently live in MA and love it here, but the winters are starting to get to my husband and I. we have horses and dogs. how are the ticks in the winter, are there any? I have been down there once already at the end of march and we are planning trip number 2 this weekend to look at property and scope out the area more. thanks!

It is a lovely area and is known as horse country (and golf too, of course!).
There have been several threads on this forum lately for Southern Pines/Pinehurst (search for New England village in NC...), and also for the Carolina Horse Park. You may find some useful information from those posts.
We live about 20 miles north of S.P., but I'm down that way about once a week year-round. In the many years we've lived in this area, I've not found tics to be a problem at all in the winter. The winter weather is pleasant, chilly but not really cold for a long period of time. That far south it is rare to see much snow, though they do get a "dusting" on occasion. It is possible to golf there pretty much year round unless it's raining.
Great selection of restaurants, good shopping. Downtown S.P. and the village of Pinehurst are two of the nicest downtowns anywhere in N.C. Hope this is helpful. Let me now if you have any more questions.
