Buying a house
Hello,
I have yet to visit North Carolina to find a good place to live but I'd like to know where I can buy a house at a decent price (it's my brother and I to be exact). We are both in our mid thirties, single, hard workers. I'd transfer with a job (my company has stores everywhere in the US).
We are looking for something in the 60 000 that we could work on. I don't want something brand new.
We both like animals, wildlife, nature (but I don't hunt and neither does he). I'm easy going, respectful, and I'd like to stay away from the big cities. I keep it to myself but I like being involved with my community.
I'd have to live not too far from a city though as it is where the stores are (And eventually I'm going to go back to school).
I know it's a lot to ask, thanks for your input.

PS: I looked into Fayetteville, good choice? We'll travel there in 6 months and stay for a week or so.

It wouldn't be my first choice, or even my 10th, sorry.
Finding a home under $75,000 these days in any area close enough to a city for you to work in will be a bit difficult, so good luck.
I'd suggest you look in areas within a 45 minute radius of places like Statesville or Greensboro - much nicer parts of the state.

Ok, super, I'm going to look into that.
75 000 is in our price range, I just don't want something brand new, I'm more of a country girl and I can put my brother to work
I work in a very known retail store and my bro is a comp graphic designer. We're both French, hard worker, so I'd like to find a good community I could feel part of, meet someone, etc etc ... life with as little drama as possible

You are going to have a hard time finding anything in that price range....even old and decrepit in a decent area that is near any sort of retail establishments unless you work for something like Wal-mart....but I suppouse it could be done if you really aren't picky.
I'd find a job (or get a transfer) and then see what is in that area.

I'll be getting a transfer indeed (no, not Walmart ), even though my brother has a good situation, I don't intend on moving without my job.
I'm just looking for countryside, I don't like the city anymore. We do intend on renting first to get a feel of the area. I like small towns personally, not too far from a big city for work sake.
I just need help finding the right town. I think we'd be a positive addition to a community.

You can find plenty of houses in your price range not too far from cities. (I did a search on realtor.com for areas around Winston-Salem, Hickory, Charlotte, and Asheville.)
I'd start with whatever cities you can work in and check for the kind of school you eventually want to go to. Then look at a map to find the towns nearby and use city-data.com to find out more about those towns. Also look for state parks, so even if the area is developed more in the future some land has been set aside.
A house in your price range in town would be either a total disaster or in a bad area (probably both), but that isn't necessarily true in a more rural area.

Yes, looking for rural indeed. I lived in Indiana and I really miss my small town.
Really do not want to live in a big city anymore (convincing my brother that no, 30 min commute isn't THAT much lol)
The Asheville area seems lovely. Thanks a lot for your link!
