Default Moving and need Chronic Fatigue/Lyme doctor for young adult son

We will be moving to NC (Charlotte area) next summer. I have been trying to find a primary care doctor via online for my young adult son so that when we get there he will not be without care for an extended period of time.

I think an MD would be best but will consider Naturopath, DO as well. Right now he sees an MD that deals with things alternatively but uses mainstream medical as well. It has been helpful, he is better than he was but not where he wants to be... Well, he's 24 yrs old now and wants a life.

Anybody have any info that would be helpful?

Will be taking a trip down maybe in the Fall, depending on whether or not he is well enough to travel.

Thanks for all the "virtual" learning here, it's great!

Probably best to post this in the Raleigh forum as all the best hospitals are in that area.

Not sure about Charlotte but the Raleigh area has Duke Medical and UNC Hospital. Winston-Salem has Wake Forrest Baptist, which is the one my husband's cardiologist recommended highly. Those three are the big name one's.

I am sure someone from the Charlotte area will post some advice about a hospital or doctors that you can check on.

Good luck to you and your son.

Hey - just saw this. Not sure if you are still looking, but if so, you should check the following:

1) Start with the NC Lyme Support Group - North Carolina Lyme Disease Foundation, Inc.. You can probably get the names of doctors people have found helpful (or unhelpful,) there. ALso - many of the national groups may unofficially know of contacts in the Charlotte area - Time for Lyme, etc...

2) Columbia University Hospital's Lyme Research Center - they are one of the most up to date/knowledgeable groups who are studying and treating Lyme disease. Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Research Center. The doctors in charge there may know of someone local, and they also have a training program to help educate doctors from all over the country, so they may have names.

3) The Lyme Disease Association has a doctor referral section on their website at Lyme Disease Association

4) The American Lyme Disease Foundation will give you a referral if you email them - see their website American Lyme Disease Foundation

5) The American Association of Naturopathic Doctors have a website where you can search NDs. http://www.naturopathic.org/AF_MemberDirectory.asp

I would start with these sites, and then call individual doctors offices and ask f they know and treat Lyme. If you've been dealing with it for a while, then you're probably well aware of the politics involved, and also that sometimes office staff are not fully informed of their employer's specialities. Best of luck!

I was also going to suggest Dr. Lapp. I have a relative with chronic fatigue who has traveled across the state to see him. The Hunter-Hopkins Center - Home
