i am sure it is quite cheaper in eastern nc vs fla. a lot of ppl are moving solely on the fact that they can sell their house in fla and buy one twice the size in nc. i probably could too, but dont want to live in nc. i did that once, and it isnt for everybody. plus, not to be rude, but if i am going to live on the coast, i prefer fla coasts to nc coasts anyday.

Yes, I left Florida a few years ago. Previously lived in Jacksonville and now live in a small town in the foothills of NC. Except for a few minor inconviences, I adore it. Each time I return to Jax, I get a headache. The traffic, crime, rudeness, etc. I am a real estate broker and am hearing the woes from Florida folks on a daily basis. They are wanting to move but can not sell. I love the 4 seasons. In Florida I was about 15 minutes from the beach. It was great in my younger years, but I found as I grew a little older, that the beach wasn't as important to me. We all change as a grow and mature. I would never had thought I would live in a small NC town when I was younger. And heck, who knows, maybe I will change my mind and move somewhere else at some point. But for the moment I am quite content.

I moved here to Durham/Raleigh from JAX via Phoenix. It's different here. I can say that much. I moved here for a job so I wasn't trying to escape high taxes. Everyone doesn't move here with a family trying to buy twice the size home they had in another state. That isn't my concern or focus at the moment b/c I don't have a family and I'm not married nor do I wanna buy a house right now b/c I don't know if I'm going to be here long. This ain't a bad place, but it is different than Florida or Phoenix and if you like that Florida lifestyle and culture, then NC may not be the place for you. But it'll do for now.

Really! Each time I return to Jax, and I'll be there for a week in the summer, I love it with the palm trees everywhere. I get off the plane, cruise to the beaches, go for some dinner at the beach with the family, then hit up some clubs at the beach. Later in the trip, I go down to St. Augustine and hang, club some more at the Landing and the Southside/Regency area and Orange Park. We hit up St Johns Town Center and we hang out in San Marco before I leave. J'ville is so chill. It may sound weird, but the rudeness is a somewhat welcomed site b/c it all balances out. So it's all good.

I also was not one of those people who sold a florida home to buy one twice as big-lol-I am renting right now-buying a house here is too big of a commitment to me, wanted to check out the area first. You are right about the difference in lifestyle and culture here-maybe its different along the coast-we are too far from the beach-11/2 hrs I do love the florida beaches-will be going to the outter banks for the first time with my brother and his girlfriend (pretty chilly for the beach) I guess we'll be fishing Anyway anxious to see the outter banks-hope i like it Can't wait to go vacation in florida this summer-love that warm tropical breeze as i'm stepping off the plane

Hey Y'all, I'm new to this forum (found it by accident, but glad). As for leaving Florida for NC - I want to as soon as I'm able! I grew up in Winston-Salem, my parents moved us to Fort Pierce, FL in 1966 and I left my heart and soul behind in those hills and mountains of NC! I get back to visit as often as possible (not often enough). I never stopped missing the four seasons, especially spring and fall. But, after surviving Frances and Jeanne, I've been wanting to move from this state! I hate hurricane season, which begins soon. It will be several years before I'll be able to, but, yes, I will be leaving FL for NC! NC is a beautiful state, with the ocean to the east, the mountains to the west, and the rolling hills in between - nothing like that down here! JensenBeachGal - how long did you live there? Were you there when there was nothing to Jensen, especially on US 1 - a bar and gas station! I hate going anywhere south of Fort Pierce - too many cars and people anymore! So, any of you who are fortunate enough to leave FL for NC, bless you!

i didnt say everyone, but whaenever i hear ppl leaving fla to nc, it's always about cost. and the beauty of the mtns. like i said, i like fla a lot better. i have lived in both. there just isnt enough to do in nc (imo). i cant look at the mtns forever --- gets kind of boring. nice ppl for the most part, although where i lived, everyone was from somwhere else. i read where like only half of the ppl (in the twon i used to live in) are actuallt born in the state. i guess it's getting like that everywhere now.
as for the 4 seasons, i dont really have to have 'em. in western nc, the sky was always so grey in the inter, and i really didnt like months oct - mar for that reason. whenever family comes to visit, they are relieved. blue skies and the beach, laid back atmosphere, breezy, etc... especailly when up in northern fla, around st aug., and jax bch areas. nothin like it...

moving to NC from south florida
I am moving to NC, Southernpines area from south florida. Same reason as others, too expensive and can't take another hurricane. I am really anxious about finding a decent place to rent and I have a horse to bring with me and need to find a place for him. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi All! I have a home in Pompano Beach and after searching Realtor...com for 2 1/2 years decided I wanted to invest in a second home. I purchased a 120 year old farmhouse in Avery Co, near Boone and Blowing Rock. I love it here and this summer I'm planning on visiting the Outer Banks and Kure Beach, etc...someday I may sell my home in Fl and relocate but for now I am enjoying the best of both worlds! 2 weeks ago we had the biggest snowstorm in 5 years, according to what I've been told...OMG...what fun! My dog NEVER saw snow before...the amazing thing is because it was a spring storm, the ground was warm and the foot of snow dissapeared by the following day. It is breathtakingly beautiful here. Enjoy!
