We purchased some land to build a 2nd home for retirement (that's 6 yrs away). We would like to start building within the next year. We have contacted Terry Thompson, a "known" builder in rutherfordton. Does anyone have any feedback on this builder? how about any recommendations on others?
also, we currently live in FL. although we do not live in a big city i'm afraid i'll feel too isolated in rutherfordton, nc. what is there to do there? sporting events, cultural, just plain fun. i know the mall is at least 45 min away (i checked). if anyone has any feedback i'd love to hear from you.
cindy j had sent some people to some good restaurants. we will be coming up for memorial day wkend. any suggestions of where to stay and where to get a good meal?

Reason: forgot to put what state
Jim Still construction is really good quality. Hooper is also good quality. Both do custom building a lot.
Depending on what size city you are coming from (I came from Jacksonville, Florida) you will experience some culture shock. Folks here just do not move quite as quick as in a big city. Don't get discouraged though. The majority are really good folks. I can recommend electricians, flooring installers, etc.
ICC (Isothermal Community College) actually puts on some good acts and works with the local arts coummunity. You will travel to Spartanburg, Asheville, Hickory, or Charlotte for regular larger entertainment though.
Ditto on Jim Still in Rutherfordton. He built our house in 1998, and an addition in 2004. He's still in business and backs his work
