now, we are all VERY happy to have the unemployment benefit bridge to help us get to the other side.
i am not at all belittling that.
but when i get my Tier 2 letter basically saying i'll have 7 full weeks plus a $10 week, thats like a punch in the stomach. having money every week is essential to pay the power bill, the rent, etc.
i'd rather have a week off the end of the line than one in the middle. i dont suppose there's a way to decline the $10 and get to the next Tier.
again, no looking a gift horse in the mouth, but a week without any money when youre stretched to the limit now, is brutal.

No, unfortunately, no way to get around the short week. The bright side is that the following week will go back up to your regular weekly benefit amount.

a simple formula, like...if x<$50, then add it to the previous week. what would be the real concern with getting, say, $260 instead of $250? one single week can mean getting your power turned off, then you need MORE money to get it turned back on, and before you know it, you went from controlled poverty to spiraling out of control.
jdljr, i think youve said that if you qualify for one Tier, you qualify the subsequent. if thats true, why not just add a line of code and add the .3s and .6s together and tack it on the end.

Makes good sense to me, but there's gotta be some reason why they don't do this. I honestly don't know if it's something that could be considered. I suspect a portion of the UI law would have to be re-written to accommodate this. I would suspect that if it could be done it has already been considered. Maybe it will happen at some point.

I started collecting unemployment benefits 1/31/2009. NC is telling me that I ran out of benefits this week and that's it. My girlfriend started collecting the same exact week and she has 11 weeks left on her claim and then an extension of 6 more weeks thus going for 99 weeks which will then stop. Do you think I was misinformed?

that only makes your 81 weeks total? Try calling them again, good luck

I called them back again and was told that the number of weeks doesn't matter. Its how much you were given in your initial claim. When asked when did I exhaust Tier1? Tier2? Tier3? Tier4? she said it doesn't matter and would not give us the answers. She also said that the federal extension meant that money was given to each state and each state makes their own laws on how claims are paid. When I asked again to please explain the 99 week maximum she asked where this "99" was coming from. There is a serious gap in answers, state laws, interpretation etc. but either way NC is screwing around with peoples lives but not having clear concise information. Any suggestions?

I also don't understand how I exhausted Tier1,2,3,and 4 from Jan.31 09 through 8/21/10. Can someone tell me if they have done the same? This really sucks.

I totally agree with the thread. North Carolina does not have a good job market at the moment.
