if both parents are out of work, and only rely on UI, then right now they can get emergency food stamps, especially if they have kids...

The only way they cant get the food stamps is if they have thousands of dollars in the bank, and I dont even need to ask if that is the case then why are the kids going hungry.

In addition there are federal and state programs to help the poor with medical care for their kids..

UI is not a welfare program, it is an insurance that we all pay for. The others are welfare programs. In addition if you dont have kids, like me, it is very difficult to get any assistance. Then there is that the medical programs only cover kids, so the parents, who tend to be in worse health, need to see doctors.

I see your point clearly. We all still need other necessities such as fuel, electric services, clothing etc. That is nothing to joke about. Also the new jobs numbers just in for May went from bad to worse, 9.0 now is 9.1% unemployment nationwide. This makes me think...since we in NC are no longer receiving EB benefits does that mean that 50k workers are no longer counted in our state unemployment numbers just as those who have quit looking and given up?

Good news...there were 54,000 jobs added in the entire country last month......if just those of us on EB in NC were to get everyone of them we wouldn't need benefits anymore

If you keep file, then you are counted. You are only ever no longer counted if you quit filing.. That is a problem when people exhaust their benefits and can no longer file, but it is not a problem for us.

The system is seriouslly flawed. There should be a way to for people to "file" as in be counted when they exhaust all benefits. I guess the powers that be don't want the real number of unemployed out there.

It's not a problem for you original 37,000 but it is for the roughly 13,000 of us that can't file.

From what I understand you can still file, it just gives you an error after you do so.

Here is something that is unusual to me...A lot of you are saying that if you weren't on EB when it ended on April 16 that you can't file; the system will say all benefits are exxhausted or whatever other message you get. Well, I was not on EB on 04/16, my last check form Tier 4 was week ending 05/07, I have not had any trouble filing. When I go into my weekly certification, answer the questions and hit submit I still get the "You claim has been accepcted and is being processed" message. Has this happened to anyone else?
