In short, no...however, it ultimately depends on the office. I recall former frequent poster KC~Carolina, say that the office she went to was very strict and they did follow-up with some employers. It's never happened to me...in fact, I was never even called down to present my records...even while on EB. I think I recall another member in the past who said her office made calls as well. jdljr admitted his office never made calls but checked each claimant's forms pretty thoroughly, but they ultimately did nothing. I don't think we've had anyone say that they were denied benefits because of ESC's contact with prospective employers.

You should get your first mandatory appointment letter in the mail after every 5 weeks or so on EB. That means, you should make around 4 total trips to the office while on EB (if you get 20 weeks). They set the appointment date usually two weeks from the date the letter is mailed to you.

IF you get the letter, and during the week your supposed to attend your appointment, you're presented with and answer three supplemental questions when you go to do your weekly certification...call your office and make sure your appointment is still valid. Sometimes, those supplemental questions are used IN PLACE of the appointment. Once you answer those questions...your audit is satisfied and you don't have to attend the appointment. But just don't not show up, call first.

You do have to attend the appointment or they will shut your benefits off. That has happened to some in the past.

I know everyone is getting their funds and that is super exciting, but I still have a couple questions if anyone will be so kind as to answer...

1.) Has anyone received a paper check yet? When I was laid off and up until this point I never needed Direct Deposit so I never set it up, the way my claim was filed I never received the debit card I always got a paper check... well now everyone has been paid and I still haven't received a dime. I have checked the ESC website for my payment history and it shows all back payments were processed on 06/07 and it normally takes 2 days for my checks to get here from the processing date... so maybe today.

2.) Where is everyone? I know towards the end some other posters were talking about creating another forum to provide helpful job search information and other useful info, does anyone know if that happened? I would like to be part of that if it has. Although I have found a position so it may not be necessarily useful to me, I will be doing a lot of recruiting for computer engineers and IT specialist in the foothills of NC. I might can offer some help to another person who has been hurt by this great recession.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I'm less worried about denial of benefits & more about whether a prospective employer would realize how long I've been out of work. I'm now using a functional format so employers wouldn't see the gap in employment. If NCESC were to call them, of course the prospective employer would know I've been unemployed.

Have the party of 5 changed their minds? If they haven't I think everything will go through.
