I answered an identical post a few days ago. My wife was raised in Burlington and her parents still live there. We visit several times a year. It's a nice town in general. It's clean, pretty safe, is really convenient to Greensboro and Raleigh, and has nice people. The western half of the city seems to bo the best. But there's really not much to do there. My wife says they have the nickname "Borington". Just something to consider.

I don't know about living there but my friend has informed me that's the place to shop.

My wife is from Burlington and her parents still live there. We HATE the place. It is SSSSOOOOO boring and parts of the town are getting really bad. (East side near Graham.) The west side of town is getting some new development, though.

I lived in Greensboro for a couple years myself so we've been in Burlington a lot. There are a thousand other places in this country I'd live before there. Raleigh and Charlotte areas are the only places in North Carolina I'd ever live.

Default Just bought a house in Gibsonville

I don't know what other people say when they say it's getting "bad" in Burlington. My wife and I just bought a house in Gibsonville and are moving up from Palm Beach County, Florida. I also don't know how some people define "boring", there seem to be a large number of sports and activities for kids through school and community sports programs. Burlington Day School, where our daughter is enrolled for kindergarten seems quite nice, though a bit older than her current school and tuition is pretty much the same. I have no idea about the public schools. There also seems to be quite a bit of access to outdoor activities. You are also within easy driving distance of either Greensboro/Winston-Salem or Raleigh Durham if you are looking for a nice night out or theatre. Everyone we spoke with seemed friendly. I suppose if you're looking for a bar or club scene, then yes it will probably be boring. If you are looking for someplace to raise a family and do most of your entertaining at home, it seems a good choice. Though I would use it as a bedroom community and plan on working out of one of the larger metro areas within commuting distance or tele-commuting. There seems to be a large amount of growth, and I imagine over the next five years you will see quite an increase in property values as people spill over from the Triad and the Triangle. The Raleigh/Durham area is actually the fifth fastest growing area in the country. My advice, especially if you are out of doors sort of people, is to find a nice house just outside of town, buy a deep freezer and do most of your bulk shopping in Greensboro and make a commitment to keep your kids involved in extra-curricular activities as well as get involved in the community. It certainly won't be a big city life, but definately has potential. If you can afford to buy now, housing in the area is probably about as cheap as it's going to get. As a matter of fact all the homes we had as alternative choices are under contract now. Just as an FYI, we spent $320K on a ten year old, 2250 square foot 3/2 on 13 acres and are 10 minutes from downtown. If you would like, I can put you in contact with my buyer's agent, she works for Coldwell Banker and was superb. I recomend her without reservation. Hope this helps and take all advice with a grain of salt.

Burlington is definitely the place to shop. If you want to live near Burlington in a town that isn't quite as boring try Elon.
