Hi.

I am a singer/musician looking to relocate to a city in North Carolina rich with artists and open-minded folks. Presently, I am recovering from alcohol addiction, and am seeking either a halfway house, or an area supportive of continuing recovery within the GLBT communities.

Any suggestions for me?

Thanks,

Suzanne

Asheville would be the place you're looking for.

Can't speak to the recovery community, but you might also want to consider the triangle, especially Durham, because of the very active music scene.

Two resources for you are the sheville list for Asheville and the trianglegrrrls bulletin board for Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill.

You might want to move on to South Carolina. Charleston could be great for you.

I'd say either Asheville or Myrtle Beach. A friend of mine is in a band and they play a lot in Myrtle Beach/North Myrtle Beach. Might be worth checking out.

Continued good luck on your recovery!

Please note that what you're responding to is a 5-year-old post.

The more details you can supply, the better as far as:

WHY you are looking to relocate?
WHERE you are thinking of and why?
What you know firsthand or otherwise about the area that appeals to you?
Whether you will be looking for work there and in what field?
Anything else you think is important.

I'm gay and it's a non-issue in the cities and suburbs of NC and even many smaller towns, but there are jackasses everywhere. The questions I mention above are much more important than being Lesbian.

Also, if Charlotte specifically is where you're looking, there is a whole forum just for Charlotte.
