Rocky Mount is certainly fading. I remember 10-15yrs ago it was one of the top towns in the area. Now it's far behind Greenville and I would even take Wilson over it these days too.

we lived there and moved as fast as we could to Wilson, some better but stay west of I=95 and you will be happier. I grew up on coast but have been very unhappy in eastern nc, everyone is moving due to high utilities and taxes.

I wouldn't move there. It used to be a "star" of the eastern(ish) 1/3 of the state. But since Centura Bank....RBC...now PNC? Bank is here, it lost a lot of white collar workers.

Rocky Mount has VERY high crime compared to other NC cities its size. The public schools are terrible and filled with drugs and thugs as are most neighborhoods.
If you enjoy crack cocaine, roving gangs of thugs, prostitutes, shootings, and your home being burglarized then please move to Rocky Mount!

You know its bad when the fire department issues bullet proof vests to its EMS workers.
