Default Raleigh or Charlotte

Ok I know this question has been around but here is what I'm looking for:
Great schools, good medical care, low crime rate, good place for families - small-town feel but close enough to good shopping, ect. Also, a good jewish population. We currently live in NY (Long Island). We have 4 kids. We love our neighborhood (Smithtown) but can no longer afford to live the lifestyle we want to here. We are Jewish but not very religious. Good schools are a priority, as is good medical care. We visited the Raleigh area & liked it but it was a very short trip & would really need to visit again. We have not been to Charlotte. Please, any advise would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think you would be happy in Raleigh also due to your background. The education levels are quite high compared to most places in the South. Atlanta is also a good choice. Good Luck. I'm curious why not VA?

Wow! Look! I am agreeing with urbancharlotte.

But, more specifically, I am guessing you'll be happier in some of Raleigh's Wake County suburbs that might more closely mimic your life up North.
I think you'll appreciate the fact that the Triangle has a very highly educated populace with a lot of focus on education. Good luck with your decision.

The Raleigh-Durham area seems it would fit your needs best. Wake County (Raleigh) has some of the best public schools in the state, and Durham, which is right next door, is nicknamed "the city of medicine." Not sure about the Jewish population in the area though.

Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking the Raleigh area is where we will wind up, mostly due to the quality of the medical care there as well as the school district,
