There are apparently several websites. This one that I sent to my cousin seemed the best - although I suspect they're all linked!
Tons of info here.. You could spend all day looking at it!

Stay away from salisbury
my advice to anyone considering a move to salisbury, especially those coming from a larger city: DON'T DO IT! there is a racial divide you can feel just walking down the streets, the concept of multi-culturalism does not exist in salisbury, there is a severe lack in shopping opportunities, yoga studios are quite hard to come by (there are maybe one or two that only offer a handful of classes a week), there are virtually no decent restaurants in the entire city, and the town seems to be filled with white people who are afraid of anything foreign. (i am speaking from experience as i am of middle eastern decent and grew up in salisbury. i experienced a lot of discrimination.) STAY AWAY! any maybe some of you reading this will think this is an unfair portrayal, but just look a little deeper.

My grandparents have lived in Salisbury their entire lives (now 80s) and I cannot say I agree with noosh's post regarding the race issue. Otherwise shopping is limited, I agree with that, but small town living can be special in its own right. We have some family land there and never plan on selling.

I've been associated with Salisbury for a couple of decades, though I live in a different county. It's an area that does have problems - primarily related to gangs. Sounds funny for a city this size, but keep on eye on the local rag
SalisburyPost.com -- Your guide to Rowan, Cabarrus, Davie and Davidson counties, North Carolina
and you'll see stories crop up about crime and gang intervention.
Other than that, I don't have any problems with the town. Shopping? Head south to Concord. It's only about 20 miles. PLENTY of shopping there, which they can keep. Let them deal with the congestion and traffic problems that go with having large crowds of people converge on the Big Box stores. Food? More restaurants have opened as of lately. Just check out Jake Alexander or Innes for the chains and independent eateries. There may be a dearth of ethnic food - Thai, for one - but if you want anything from Italian to Mexican to greasy American or BBQ, there are places to choose from.
Myself - I'm fine with the town. It has a sense of history, access to shopping, lack of crowds that afflicts areas closer to Charlotte, and the folks are generally nice people. I sure don't want to see if become another Concord, which is nothing but a bland transplant-laden bedroom community to Charlotte.

Shopping is improving as well. They just opened a Kohls and several restaurants will be following in the new site (Olive Garden for one). Actually, Salisbury has a nice selection of restaurants. I don't live there, but I work there.
I also can't say I have noticed a huge 'racial divide'.

i am confused that people say they do not feel the racial divide in this city. the town is very segregated. i mean - come on! - just open your eyes for a few moments. perhaps if you are not a minority this would be something that will be a bit of a challenge.
someone mentioned olive garden as a restaurant that was coming to town. this comment strengthens my point about the lack of non-chain restaurants in salisbury.
kohls is hardly a store to get excited about.
whether or not one would like to live in this town has a lot to do with the person and what they are expecting out of the town they live in. if one is expecting to have somewhat of a comparable lifestyle to philly, salisbury is not the place for them.

The TRUTH
People get serious. This is a SMALL TOWN with small town mentality. Not a single restaurant with anything better than a Swanson Frozen Meal.
They breast feed on BBQ and serve Cheerwine from ice fountains at weddings. The political makeup is radically to the right and the city is extremely racist.
The clothing stores still sell "leisure suits" and people stare when they see a Mercedes Benz. There is NO NIGHTLIFE and the police randomly stop anyone on the streets after 2AM.
The most culture this city ever sees is the annual tractor pull. If you are looking for a place where you can marry your sister or live with your mother untile you are 60.....this may be the place you are looking for.

I'm sure people will come along with specific rebuttals; all I can say is that I'm laughing hysterically at this post This has to be one of the most full-of-bull posts I've ever read

Also, I agree with Sunny, there are other places you can find work other than Charlotte. Personally, I'd NEVER commute to Charlotte from Salisbury. I'd look for HR work in Salisbury or Concord for sure.

Yes you are right.Going from Salisbury to Charlotte is 2 hours a day.

Salisbury isnt a city, but if people moved here, there might be more restraunts and yoga places or whatever. It really should fill up. Soon or later, Charlotte's population will override.
