Question Mount Airy, NC any rentals very close?

My husband and I are retireing in December and Mount Airy looks so much like my home town, a Village, really. We would love to live either in or very near Mount Airy. Are there any Apartments or small houses for rent like this? And where? I am disabled and my husband isn't of best health. So the less upkeep the better for us.
We are smokers but don't need to smoke inside and we love pets but have none right now. We at present live in Kansas, but I am from Michigan.
Any suggestions anyone? We are both very nice people with small town personalities.
And not 45 minutes to hours drive?
Thanks!

There are the Globe Tobacco Lofts (where I live). They have about 50 units and range from 1/1's to 3/2's. They are affordable and kept up VERY well. As far as I know those are honestly the only rental property that come to mind that are kept up well. Mt. Airy has never really had an abundance of quality rental property. Have you been to Mt. Airy to visit and see if it feels like a good fit?

Sorry, I didn't really answer all your questions. They also allow smoking, and you can have pets (one dog under 25 pounds or one cat). They're also located on the corner of Worth and S Main so they're right in the middle of town, a little less then a mile away from downtown.
