I live in Cary. It is NOT a small town.

My wife and I too are from MI and moved to NC in July of this year. We chose to live in Hope Mills near Fayetteville as it is a smaller town that is nice and family oriented. We live near Gray's Creek which has good schools, etc. Feel free to ask me any questions but we really like it here.

Lillington is 45 min. drive from Fayetteville on either 201 or 401 (down Ramsey or Spring Lake) with the Mayberry charm. Raven Rock is nearby. You would also be dead center of shopping either in Fayetteville or Raleigh. For quick shopping trips it's 15 mins to Dunn or 20 to Sanford.
It's nice to visit Raleigh and go to the concerts without living in the traffic. |

I'm with john33, Mocksville is really nice. Our friends just left Mooresville and moved to Mocksville. They love it!

How about the Polkton area. Small town , Wadesboro to east and charlotte is about 50 miles west, concord is about the same . Big shopping malls etc. Polkton has the small town feel with farming etc. Everybody knows everybody and lots of the older generation is dying out and we get new comers from everywhere. come and compare yourself you want be sorry.

I have sped through both Polkton and Lilesville on the way to the beach many times. It doesn't seem like there's really anything going on, just sleepy towns in a mainly black, agriculture-based, economically depressed part of the state. One of the hottest parts of NC in the summer, too. Not trying to put these towns down, just what i see looking out the windows twice a year. Please confirm or deny if it's different...

I admit it, I'm biased, but I think Tarboro is great. We moved here two years ago from Beaufort County (which is also nice). What I like best about Tarboro is the downtown and the huge historic district. It is a well-kept town that looks beautiful, is clean and everybody is very friendly. For the first year we were here, everyone we met made sure to say "Welcome to Tarboro". It has a population of about 11,000 people and everything you need is right here in town. If you want even more, we're just 15 miles from Rocky Mount, 1/2 hour from Greenville, 1/2 hour from Wilson, 1 hour from Raleigh. It's a town where you and your children can safely walk or ride bikes. Where your neighbors really are your neighbors, not just strangers who live next door. We have 2 coffee shops and a new pub with live music and karaoke. We have a world-class restaurant for those special occasions. We have a riverfront park with fishing and boat access (a block or two from downtown). We have a 15 acre town common. A huge sports facility and Indian Lake park.
If you're looking for a town to call home, where you can become a part of the community, where your children can grow and play in a safe and friendly environment, check out Tarboro, especially the historic district. It and the downtown area are a community in themselves. Its great living here. |
