Default Need Hickory info please

I am considering relocating to the hickory area from MA.
I like the small town feel, but also will need some type of employment. How feasible is commuting the the Charlotte area to work?
Are there any "Hickory-like" areas near Charlotte?
Need your input on pros and cons of the Hickory area.

Thanks
Len

Talking On your possible move to Hickory from MA

Hello, I know your post is from Feb but I thought I'd try to help you anyway. My husband was born and raised in Hickory and most of his family is still there so we get up there several times a year. Hickory has grown by leaps and bounds but somehow managed to keep the small town appeal. Travel from there to CLT shouldn't be too bad, maybe 45 min to 1 hr drive. Having said that I should also say that I haven't made that particular drive in a long time, since my husband and I go to Gastonia and up Highway 321 to get to Hickory. There are a lot of small town areas between there and Charlotte. Hope this helps you at least a little bit. Good Luck and take care.

I have driven the Hickory to Charlotte route many, many times over the last 40 years. With the new 321 open, you can make it in about 1 hour and 15 minutes if the traffic is good which it never is on I-85. Statesville would be the nearest thing to Hickory IMO. Statesville is in Iredell County and you would get there via I-77. It is 40 miles from Charlotte and it another nightmare commute. Depending on what kind of work you do, you may not have to come in to Charlotte.

Hickory would be quite the commute to Charlotte everyday. I would suggest finding a job in Hickory or a closer city. What kind of work are you looking for?
