Having said that I should also say that I haven't made that particular drive in a long time, since my husband and I go to Gastonia and up Highway 321 to get to Hickory. There are a lot of small town areas between there and Charlotte. Hope this helps you at least a little bit. Good Luck and take care.

I have driven the Hickory to Charlotte route many, many times over the last 40 years. With the new 321 open, you can make it in about 1 hour and 15 minutes if the traffic is good which it never is on I-85. Statesville would be the nearest thing to Hickory IMO. Statesville is in Iredell County and you would get there via I-77. It is 40 miles from Charlotte and it another nightmare commute. Depending on what kind of work you do, you may not have to come in to Charlotte.
