Default Moving from New Haven CT to Fayetteville NC - Need Help!!

Hi All,

In 7 days I start my new job on Fort Bragg NC so I've been in search of a place in the Fayetteville area. After searching this forum throughly I see that Fayetteville doesn't have the best reputation. New Haven doesn't either but it's not as bad as people make it out to be so I'm sure the same can be said about peoples feelings on Fayetteville. Anyway, My preference is to live in a safe quiet neighborhood that's not too far from civilization and not too far from Fort Bragg. Anything over a 15 mile oneway commute to work I would consider too far. I'm also looking to rent a single family home with a garage for my motorcycle and drumset. I have a 7 year old son who may be coming to live with me in the distant future so a good elementary school would be a plus as well. I've researched a few places that I found on the Remax website and these are some of the places for rent I narrowed down as "good neighborhoods" but I need as many opinions as I can get.

Here are the addresses:

6874 KINGSGATE DR FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
6717 SEXTON COURT FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
7138 CANARY DRIVE FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
7256 PEBBLEBROOK FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
1215 OAK KNOLLS DRIVE FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
6524 ST. LOUIS STREET FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
5569 PEPPERBUSH FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
7010 WRIGHT COURT FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
6921 KIZER FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
1357 CHILTON DRIVE FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314
6734 SEAFORD FAYETTEVILLE NC, 28314

When I first get here I will be staying with my brother who lives in North Raleigh so I know that commute will get old fast. The faster I find something in Fayetteville, the better.

Thanks in advanced for your help.

We're very happy in Hope Mills, which is the same county as Fayetteville and just about 15 miles from Fort Bragg. Lots of activities for kids, lots of sports, good schools. We moved 15 years ago from Long Island, and have been very happy with our decision. We are not military, my husband works for Department of Social Services -- and was offered a comperable job down here for similar pay. I'm not going to be much help on the specific addresses - but I can tell you which school districts, in general, have the better neighborhoods. Jack Britt district Southview District Terry Sanford (though In my opinion - the Terry Sanford district is overpriced because it is the trendy area.) We looked at a 1300 sq. ft house in the Terry Sanford district, and our 1300 sq. ft house in Hope Mills. Our house was $50,000 cheaper with a bigger yard and an attached garage. I hope some of this is helpful... Good luck.

Hello Sir and I do wish you a safe trip to Fayetteville! Please contact me or one of our visitor center staff members at 800-255-8217 or 910-483-5311 to discuss your needs. I am a life long resident of Fayetteville with a stint away performing military duties. Now I am employed at the Fayetteville Area CVB and there are departments in our office that can assist. You are correct when you say "it's not as bad as people make it out to be." Fayetteville is unique but definitely a great place to live and raise your son.

I looked up several of the addresses you posted and looked at the schools serving those addresses. There seemed to be 3 elementary schools in the area, Lake Rim, Lloyd Aumen and Bill Hefner (only one with this --that I looked up--was Pebblebrook Dr. address). As far as test scores, Bill Hefner was by far the better of the 3.
I will send you a DM with a link that will allow you to searh for rentals by SCHOOL, something I found very useful when I was house hunting there. (they list Hefner as the name alphabetically). It looks as if there are a fair amount of homes to rent for as low as 750/mo in that school zone.
Good luck.

Bill Heffner is an AMAZING school Very highly recommended. My kids went there until we moved to Hope Mills a year ago. We opted out of the EEMIller year round to go there. It is a big school as well. Look carefully at the Middle and High school also before making your final decision.
