Need to get outta Pa!! Is NC the choice?
Honestly, born and raised here... gotta get out!! I hear so many great things about NC. My bestfriend lives in Hubert (he's a Marine) and tells me stories. I watch One Tree Hill faithfully! (I know I shouldnt make decisions on Hollywood lol) I love the scenery, the views... Also looking for a place that has a wonderfull school district. I know its a little early to look for schools, but before I know it my little guy will be starting school. He turns 3 on the 17th. How old do you have to be to start school in NC? I love the beach, but havent been any futher than Bethany Beach DE... I need to get on with my life, and start new for my son and I. I'd greatly appreciate the suggestions :-)

Your "little guy" will be starting in 3 years due to his "late" birthdate. If I were you, I would wait until then (3 years from now) before moving. NC has very high unemployment right now. Also, it is tough raising a kid away from familiy and friends (I should know, most of my help is in Ohio and Kentucky). With that said, I honestly think you will be better off where you are now. Just being honest.
We'd still love to have you down here!!! I just don't think NC has very much to offer you with the current unemployment rate.

Look for employment opportunities. Maybe your marine friend can get a few contacts for work?
Unless you are bringing 100K cash, a job would probably be necessary...
but you are right...NC is beautiful EVERYWHERE you look...

I agree with the others . . . I bet you would like it here! But at this point in time, we are in a serious situation with job loss and one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation here in Charlotte. So give it some time to see how things improve in the future. You still have some time . . . just don't make a HUGE mistake and come without a job.

You should move to a new place FOR something (preferably a JOB), not to get away from something. Tens of thousands have moved here in the past couple of years thinking they will get a job and have not been able to do so, so please secure employment before heading down. That, of course, will partially dictate what area you land in.
But yes, we have mountains, coast, and in between ("Piedmont"). We have cities, farms, and in between. We have liberal, conservative, and in between. It's hard to find someone for whom there is NOTHING to like, unless they are dead-set on a big urban jungle.
But we also have one of the highest unemployment rates of any state, at the moment, fueled in part by newcomers who arrived jobless. Just being realistic.

PA or NC there really is no big difference except for PHILLY and if I had to choose I would stay in PA. Not to mention NC unemployment rate is high like the stars.

That's why you don't see any PA plates driving around the Carolinas.
I don't know, some people might consider blue skies, bearable temperatures October- March and a coastline full of beautiful beaches to be a big difference.

Well I was really saying that there is no big difference meaning people still ride their cars to get everywhere, both have small towns, etc...Granted NC does have good weather, but some might like 4 full seasons. Theres no place like Philly in NC, In PA you are still close to the cities( NYC, DC, PHILLY)

All this can be said of PA, except for the coast/beach part.
I would just suggest being extra on guard about the old "grass is greener" thing. It's an insidious evil thing.

Very true, and in many cases you are 100%. However, I would say that many of us transplant Carolinians have found the grass to be a little greener here in NC, especially in the Charlotte and RDU areas.
