Default NY to NC, teacher looking for a job

I have read through a number of frustrated posts about not being able to find work as a teacher in NY. I understand the nepotism debate all too well. I am thinking of moving to NC -in a more urban area with no more than an hour drive to the coast. Does anybody have suggestions on moving to a good area in North Carolina. I am from long island and have lived in and out of NYC having grown accustomed to the coast. I teach elementary and special ed (2yrs exp).
Thank you

There is no "urban area in NC within an hour of the coast". The closest would be Greenville or Wilmington, but they are pretty small cities. What about Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA, or the Virginia Beach/Norfolk, VA area? All are larger cities right ON the coast?

Be prepared to take a serious paycut. LI's salaries...especially for teaching are virtually the highest in the country.
