Question for NC Piedmont area residents - what is a reliable source for me to get updated on hurricanes? I am looking for something (unlike CNN!) that does not put capitalized font 500 size red color everytime there is a drizzle coming

I use this site and downloaded onto my desktop

http://www.weather.com/services/desktop.html

It is free and for the most part it is reliable but you have to check it when the updates come out during a system. Right now, Tropical Storm Beryl is poised off the coast of the Outer Banks but I don't think it is going to do a lot. The winds are only 40 MPH and it looks as though it is headed due north at the moment although they are calling for it to shift a little to the NW. But this is still going to keep it for the most part off shore. Why don't you download it and see how you like it? I have used it ever since I got my first computer in 2000. That and the regular Weather Channel, 214 on DishNetWork and 362 on Directway.

Also checkout "www.AccuWeather.com". Go to maps at the top of the page
and then to "satellite". Of course loads of other up-to-date info is there.

I use the free WeatherBug software program on my computer. It's customized to your specific area.

WeatherBug reports instant conditions, forecasts, radar, severe weather alerts, and more from its network of over 8,000 weather stations and the national weather service.

WeatherBug (Version 6.07)

No spyware. It's clean, but you have to let your anti-virus/firewall software know it's ok to automatically connect to the Internet to query the system for updated weather data.

Great! They changed it. Adaware used to find it all the time and want to remove it.

I found the "weather bug" to be a PITA because it always takes time to connect when you start up your computer. More of a personal thing I guess.

If you have MSN as your default web page it has a weather link in it. I have several zip codes listed that I like watch. You can also enter a city and state.

mm34b, you found my husband's second home! Actually it is the best site. You are getting it right from the source. You can even check the models they use. Learned way more about weather than I ever wanted to know, but it is better to be prepared than not. Espcially here in SFLA. Was way ahead of Wilma with this site.
