are you bringing your job with you>?

1500 a month would make it really tight. You would also need 1 year residency to get in-state tuition at most public universities and community colleges I do believe. Most downtown areas are running around 500 a month for 1 bedroom and you may just need two bedrooms with your child.

Search the threads for the bigger cities (the ones that have nite-life, parks to hang with jr. and great schools can be a tricky question and even trickier to answer?)

The real concern is being able to support your family, pay for school and even have a nite life on $1500 a month..

$1500 a month will be very tight with a child, particularly in one of NC's urban areas. I live in a small town where costs are lower and I keep my budget under $1500 every month (my mortgage is about what others mentioned rent would be) - but it doesn't leave room for frivolities. However average pay for jobs is also lower in this area. I understand that the situation in Michigan is bad, but you might want to look into states other than NC as well...broaden your job search that is.
