Yes, some people do. You'll find more of that in the smaller towns in NC than in metropolitan areas like Raleigh/Durham, where people are generally more educated, open-minded, and there where is a larger population of people from other places.

In Western NC, there tends to be less tolerance of "outsiders" as well, for various reasons, but we're slowly taking over here too.

Heck, so many Yankees have moved to Raleigh, for example, that you could have an entire social circle that didn't include any southerners at all. Not that you'd want to do that by any means, but I'm just saying it's possible. I'd imagine Charlotte is the same way.
