This is what I'm looking for. I would like to live where if you want to go kick up your heels there are options for my age group. I would like to be in a area where the opportunity to meet people is great. I know NC is the south but I would love to not live somewhere that "ol south mentality" is still accepted. I dont have a preference to rural or within city limits; as long as cost of living is reasonable. If rural, just close enough where I could drive 20 minutes max to shop, dine, etc....

Having said that, is Fayetteville, NC the area I'm looking for? Thank you in advance.

By stating you are a single woman.. I am assuming ( I could be wrong) that part of your reason for choosing Fayetteville is due to the high percentage of males in the area (FT BRAGG). If you are looking to increase your odds of meeting dudes then Fayetteville will probably work out for you. Also, if you are overweight then that is a plus.. I've noticed that army guys like "fat chicks." No offense of course.

But yes, since Fayetteville is just under 200K population... all of your shopping and dining is obviously available. You also have even better options with Raleigh to the north

LOL! WHAT???

If she is thinner, she can move to Jacksonville NC, there she will have some Marines to choose from. Marines seem to prefer not so fat chicks.

wow TCUNATE, where do I begin....The comment about 'fat chick' followed by no offense, you meant that in the nicest way possible right? Cant believe the thought process didnt stop you before you actually typed that. Wrong in your assumption that moving to Fayetteville was because of the guys....I used to live there 20 plus years ago and naturally the area would have changed, did not know if it was more family oriented or if a single girl would fit in.

I've only visited, but my son has lived there for years and my DIL is from there. LOTS of men, of course. Lots of ugly pawn shops, bars, chinese restaurants, tattoo parlors and used car lots. Not very many choices of restaurants. In my experience, there are a few chain restaurants that fill up on weekend nights because there aren't enough of them.
There are some very nice residential areas, and the old guard residents live a nice, country club sort of life, but you really have to know where to go to find them.
I would not want to live there, but I'm not a young woman looking to snag a man.

Absolutely not...Fayetteville is not the move....things get old here quick and that "ol south mentality" that you mentioned is definitely prevalent here....just being honest....i've been here 3 years and that's more than enough for me....try Charlotte or Atlanta..

Actually, the running joke is that in Fayetteville, even the fat women can be choosy....

This is true, there's a 20:1 men to women ratio which means any and all ladies can pretty much pick and choose.
