Are G & T schools worth it?
We are relocating & are registering our kids for 2006-7. Any opinions on whether going into a magnet for Gifted & Talented or a year round school is worth it? Which is better? Thanks!

Are you relocating to Wake County area? I worked in the school system and my children attended Public schools. I may be able to answer some questions for you. I am originally from Conn and love it here. My children also love it here and the public school system has been wonderful for them. There are many other choices that are also great in this area. I am a realtor in the area and if you ever would like top see this area just let me know. I would love to help in any way if I can. Good luck

Thanks, Debbie. WE are going to be in the Wake Forest area in July. We are renting while we choose a home..it is too big adecision to make from here! My husband is there in a small apartment already. WE signed our kids up for IB program, 2nd choice was year round, 3rd was G & T. .The deadline was Friday... hope we chose well, & that we get our choices!

School rank
Hi,
I looked at www.psk12.com for info on school rankings although I utilized the other websites mentioned for more specific information. This website will allow you to look at the rankings from 2000 for free. Even though it is a few years old, I liked it because it at least gave me an idea about how the schools compare.
Good luck!
Caroline

checked out that site
I tis great!
I am looking more for the opinions of parents, the "feel" of the places, because if we get into the IB or magnet we still can choose to go or go to the base school.

Hello I am new to this forum and been reading quite a bit on the schools as that is an area that I am much concerned about...but it's also very confusing. Forgive me for being naive but can someone explain (very simply as I am simple-minded lol) what IB, magnet, G&T mean and what base schools are? Is it true that if you don't want year round schooling there are schools you can go to that don't have that? If so is it easy to get into them?
Just trying to make some sense of the school system there Thanks so much for any comments.
