There is a sizable Hmong population in Morganton. I haven't seen any cars with California plates being forced off of the road like they do in Oregon and Washington.

Based on the last Census, Orange County has the largest percentage of Asian residents at 5.7%. Within the county, Chapel Hill appears to have the largest percentage with 7.2%.

I would think the Raleigh/Durham area would have a high concentration of Asians.
We don't have probelms with newbies, as long as they're friendly and don't go into the, "This is how we do this in CA, NY, NJ, etc....." thype of thing. Some do that and is considered VERY rude here. If newbies accept and resepct the culture here, they will be accepted. Good luck!

I think it is sad that people have to constantly ask if the natives like people from *insert state here*. Obviously there is a perception going around that people in NC are reluctant to accept people who are different than them. How does that make you natives feel? Personally, I think both sides need to change and I think what happens is that both sides get on the defensive. Yes, I agree that complaining is annoying, but there is something about having to change who you are in order to be accepted that really irks me.

I'm a native of NC and I feel horrible that people have to ask us natives if we have problems with other people. I was raised in a very liberal, non-stereotypical Southern household and so I'm accepting of people from different races, ethnicities, backgrounds, states, countries, etc. and I would like people to accept me if I moved to another state (which hopefully I will b/c I'm sick of NC...lived here my entire life!). I'm half Hispanic, my dad was an immigrant, so I definitely am not the typical Southerner. Unfortunately, I know people who are not accepting towards change and towards people who are different from them. It's not just in North Carolina, its everywhere. If I were first moving to North Carolina, I'd stick with the urban areas b/c outside of the urban areas, if you are not a local, it can be quite difficult to "fit in."

Cary has a large Asian population. I was looking at school demographics a few days ago and Davis Drive Elementary has a 20% Asian student population.
