Why is the Income tax so high in North Carolina? (Charlotte: sales, power lines)

I used a paycheck calculator online here

I am from NJ and considering between Charlotte NC and Tampa FL

I used $540 a week prior to taxes as the comparasion. Which is not a really high salary in the first place.

After taxes, this is how much would come to the worker:

Florida- $441.50

North Carolina- $410.50




Considering that property prices, property taxes, and sales tax are all very similar in FL and NC, why are income taxes so high in North Carolina???

Can someone run through all the significant taxes in regards to NC? Do you feel like there is a good value out of the tax money paid?

Well for one Florida doesnt have an income. Try comparing to New York or connecicut or California then you will see North Carolina is realative cheap

yea but its still $1500 I am missing out on every year if I were to move to NC rather then Florida.

Do you get good value for the tax money? That is what I am asking.

I want to know things like are roads and parks well maintained? are schools up to date with technology? if theres a storm and a tree gets knocked down are they quick to act? etc, etc, etc

Storm clean up is generally done by city and county goverments and varies per city. Some areas have power lines under ground so there is less of an issue
Evaluate propery taxes and you will see Florida property taxes are more than double what you will find here

At the top of the forum you will see a photo thread. The beauty this state provides like state parks like Pilot mountain and Hanging Rock. I hear from people that move here that our rest areas are super clean (they always have someone there maintaing them every time I visited one). Alot of the highways the state plants these beautiful wildflowers. Some of the roads could use some help but those are in areas that haven't caught up to the high transplant growth.

My favorite new beach spot is the outer banks When I was there I visited an estuary for the first time. A tear came to my eye because it was so beautiful. You have the ocean one side and the sound on the other side.
Here are some of the sunsets I have captured
Most of light houses are there (maintain nicely by the state.)

In the piedmont (middle region) provides some beautiful lakes like
Lake Norman and rivers like the Yadkin River. Alot of newcomers rave about our four season climate.

The waterfalls and views from the mountains are gorgeous and the spring flowers are lovely.

I love it when newcomers to this state notice things I once took for granted
it shows me a new appreciation for what this state has to offer and it's a good place to call home.

Not exactly because the sales tax is higher in Florida so you'll pay less in income tax but more in sales tax.

PS - Try Florida, NC is full already.

Last time I looked (about 2 years ago) the property tax appeared to lower in NC (comparing same cost home in comparable type area with county and city taxes). Both NC and FL have areas subject to county and city tax rates, or county taxes only, so one must compare apples to apples.
