My wife would get a kick out of the situation at Pitt, since she was a nurse there for several years.
When I lived in Eastern NC, a youth minister at our church's Dad was a tobacco farmer (small allotment). He would help them harvest every hear and get deathly ill from the exposure. My Dad died from Lung Cancer last Fall. Luckily none of our family ever took up the habit.
Oddly enough, I have found the restaurants in Kentucky even more "smoker friendly" than NC. I was just through there on my way to MI last week. The Non-smoking section was the size of a postage stamp and adjacent to the smoking section. Kind of a joke.

It is the one thing I truly expect to miss about CA. Not only can you not smoke in any public places in CA but there are certain cities that you can't smoke in now and a list of others that are istituting the same laws. As my family has sever asthma and allergies the last thing I want is to be sitting near someone blowing smoke my way in a resturant.

Tonight for dinner, my husband and I went to Kemp's Seafood restaurant...not a very expensive restaurant, by any means. Their seafood is always fresh. We sat in the bar section, because it was late, but the hostess said they never allow smoking in the bar.
Just thought you'd like to know that its not even a ritsy place and no smoking!
I love it!

Oh give me a break! You say "everyone from nc smokes"? Funny thing is...I have alot of friends and none of them smoke. Even in my office of 100 agents...4 smoke. "Almost everyone"? Ha! Do your research! Vicki

As George Carlin said "the non smoking section of a restarurant is like the non peeing section of the public pool".
With last weeks information about the proven dangers of second hand smoke I figure it is only a matter of time before more bans are installed. I found it surprising when they banned smoking in the malls some years ago.
Florida has it right: where there is food...........there is no smoke.

I have no complaints about my new move to NC except for the smoking! I can't stand it. I have yet to discover a non-smoking establishment in Winston-Salem area. If anyone knows, please share! My main concern is with my baby. I can't imagine exposing him to second hand smoke. It actually freaks me out. I walked into a non-smoking section of the restaurant we were trying to eat at the other night and I had to leave and wait in the car for take-out because I refused to have my baby breath that crappy air.
