Default best place for horses

I am searching for the best place to relocate and am considering NC (it seems I am not the only one), I am looking for suggestions on the best place for horse lovers. I love to trail ride. I would like to be within 1.5 hour ride to major airport and not too far from shopping. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.

I think this question has been asked (and answered) several times before, not long ago, if you want to Search the forum.

Southern Pines, which is 1.5 hours from RDU airport and even closer to FAY airport, has a big equine presence. They have a steeplechase every spring and you see white "horse fences" all over the place in So Pines and Pinehurst. Maybe if you Google "Southern Pines" and "horses" you might hit some specific resources? Also, the NCSU Veterinary School has a well-respected equine program; I'd go to their website and maybe there is a contact who can tell you "from the horse's mouth", so to speak (HAR HAR!).
