Default Retirement with Great Tennis

My husband and I will be moving to North Carolina in 4 years and we're doing research to find great areas that have an active tennis community. Do you have any advice for us?

Look at Wilmington. Huge tennis association called Greater Wilmington Tennis. 2500 members play almost year round. City is constructing 10 new courts to go with the 8 existing to give 18 courts in one park in center of town. check out www.wilmingtontennis.com

As far as clay courts, it was decided that the new courts would not be clay due to the maintenance costs and budget considerations. There are a lot of clay courts in town at some of the local tennis clubs. (Hollytree to name one)

When my hubby's combo team won its state (NC) and southern regional bracket a couple of years ago, he said there always seemed to be good teams from Southern Pines around. We haven't lived there, and not familiar with prevalence of clay courts, but hubby's impression is that Southern Pines is a place to check out as possibly a great tennis community. It's definitely a popular retirement area.
