What is not urban about the pictures in the link above? Would you call that suburban? Sure Raleigh has a lot of sprawling suburbs. The same can be said for Charlotte, but that is neither here nor there. This thread is about the downtown Skylines. The pictures linked to above show downtown Raleigh and it's skyline.
P.S. I work in downtown Raleigh. I'm here right now staring at the RBC Plaza. I find it hard to beleive that you would confuse it with a strip mall.
I think you have to agree this just might be considered "remotely urban"

Don't bother. Raleigh does indeed have an urban atmosphere in the central part of the city, however most people don't even bother to travel to this part of town. The suburbs are indeed the dominating aspect of Raleigh. However that applies to Charlotte as well. Most of Raleigh and Charlotte, are both made up of sprawling suburbs.

Those photos are three towers above 300 ft. The only towers that tall in Raleigh. Charlotte had more buildings and taller ones than that in 1975. Hear is a site that shows Charlotte's skyline growth over the years. The 1975 photo is at the bottom of this page.

I posted this to show that Charlotte's business climate and role as the "central city" in its region has made the skyline what it is today. Raleigh is in all honesty about 30 or more years behind Charlotte when it comes to a skyline. I wasn't even born yet when Charlotte's skyline was comparable to the skyline Raleigh has today. One interesting note. The tallest tower in the 1975 picture of Charlotte is 40 floors tall. No building in Raleigh is that tall. The RBC center in Raleigh is about 30 feet taller due to a "handle" and spire at the top of the tower.

LOL! You really, reeeeally, REEEEAAAAALLLLY want us to believe that Raleigh is urban, don't you?
Here's the way that I see it: Does Raleigh have a couple of "tall" buildings? Yes. Does that make Raleigh's downtown urban? Not a chance. The Triangle is a lot like NOVA/DC and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Sorry Charlie. You aren't going to embroil me in a debate and take this thread off topic. I've already stated time and time again that Charlotte has the best Skyline in NC. I just linked to some pictures to show that Raleigh has a downtown in its own right in response to Linus's uniformed claim that there was no city center.
I've made my point. I have no idea what point you are trying to make.

Hence the reason Raleigh has more going on at street level than Charlotte currently. It looks like Charlotte destroyed those medium density buildings between the 1966 and 1975 photos. I would take ten 15 story buildings any day, over two 30 story buildings.

My points are that:
1) The Triangle, unlike Charlotte, has no city center therefore it will never have a skyline on par with Charlotte.
2) The Triangle is basically a collection of strip malls, subdivisions, and office parks.
3) There is nothing in the Triangle that should be considered urban.
Fin.

The inferiority complex of the folks from Raleigh is only eclipsed by that of their neighbors in Durham. Let the jump circle defending of Raleigh begin!

"The fact that "North Raleigh" gave us a link that features a 2018 cartoon rendering of Raleigh's future skyline (this is why one poster on this site called himself "Looney Toon") " - quote from urban charlotte
Uh, Urban Charlotte, just a quick observation but the poster on the site you are referring to that calls himself "Looney Toon" is you if I am not mistaken. Do you always refer to yourself in the third person?
