I agree with you. Richmond is a much older city and its core is built on a pedestrian scale. The same could be said for Charleston.

That sounds so flaky urbancharlotte. Absolutely none of that has brought character to Charlotte. Uptown is extremely sterile and cold. You have no clue about what Charlotte is about, only what you want it to be. Charlotte has a long way to in the character department, about as far as Raleigh has to go in the skyline department.
Charlotte's skyline is beautiful, however it has done nothing for the city so far as character is concerned.
My favorite parts of Charlotte is Southend, Providence rd, and NODA. Uptown is only pretty to look at, however the place is dead at street level. However luckily this is a trend, that has been changing as late.

Um, I said the SKYLINE "is special and full of character".
Raleigh's skyline is "extremely sterile and cold".

I wouldn't say sterile and cold, just not impressive. The Hearst building is the best tower in Charlotte IMO.

Interesting. Residents of one autocentric city are bashing residents of another autocentric city. Why can't you folks just work cohesively to make your state the best it can be? You don't see folks up here in Philadelphia berating folks in Pittsburgh and vice-versa.
P.S. Where's all of the pedestrian foot traffic in all of those photos?

Trust me, most people from Raleigh and Charlotte get along just grand. The two mayors of each city often join forces to answer questions together on a local radio show here in Raleigh and share their visions of their city and their combined visions for the state. The silliness you see here is the result of a vocal minority that have created an imagianry competition in their head.
There are many neat skylines in NC. Which one is best is up to the beholder.

Oh, not true at all...I've seen people from Philly and Pittsburgh going at each other more than once. All it takes is one antagonist to make some false statements or be excessively critical about another city...and it's on.
That "pedestrian" question always seems to come up when people have stereotypical perceptions of certain cities and the autocentrism therein. The person taking the photo and the person posting the photo were apparently focusing on the skylines or buildings, not snapping photos of strangers walking by. I've often seen photographers waiting for pedestrians to go on by so they are out of the photo. I've also seen people on the street express concern for strangers taking their photo.
So, the answer is...yes, there are pedestrians in virtually every city, especially in the most urban areas of the city...where are the pedestrians in the photos? JUST outstide the scope of each photo.

Ummm yeaaaah I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. North Carolina has always been divided between East and West. I wouldn't expect a transplant like you to understand. You probably also think that fans of Carolina and dook generally get along.

Here are a few of the recent additions to downtown Raleigh, some of which have really added to the skyline just in the past year or so. Again, this isn't a competition, just sharing some photos to help people not familiar with the area. If you have some photos of this or other areas go ahead and share them with the rest of us!
