Was wondering if anyone had done this for NC? Hubby and I are in the process of negotiating a job offer to move to NC, but the sticking point is we're in one the areas of the country where our house lost value so we're asking the company to pay the difference between what we owe and what we would get...anyone ever done this type of negotiation? I am asking for too much?

In a word: yes
NC is also one of "..the areas of the country where (our) house lost value..." You're lucky the company has offered to pay anything.

That's a tall order anywhere. Not just in NC. Unless you are talking about some high powered CEO position I don't really see something like that happening. Of course each employer varies, but I have to think competition for jobs is good enough that such concessions aren't being thrown around very often. FWIW, if any relocation assistance is offered I would expect it to be in the form of a fixed amount. Not an open ended offer to make up the difference of what you may eventually get for your home. Who knows what you will eventually get. Yoy may need to decide if the job is worth biting the bullet.
