My dad owned a race horse back in the day. I remember going to Monticello as a kid. The horses name was Kings Greentree. I think it won 1 race . Like you said, those were the good ole days!! My dad's hangout now is at OTB. Too bad the nearest racetrak from Charlotte will be about 6 hrs. away. I don't think he'll go that far when visiting.

NC doesn't have a horse racing track from what I have been able to find. Virginia has one east of Richmond in New Kent. West Virginia has 2 Horse Track/Casino combos and 2 Dog Track/Casino combos.
The Casino in Cherokee is Slots/Video Poker only. No tables.
NC didn't even have a state lottery until this year. It was previously illegal to even be in possession of a lottery ticket from another state from what I have read.

The casino in Cherokee (Harrah's) does have blackjack tables and "dealers", if you want to call them that. The cards are dealt via video, no actual cards are used, but dealers do pay out in chips.

yeah, it is. Kind of pointless, I thought, but that's the way they do it. They tried to get a deal with the state this year to allow real cards as well as some other casino games, but it didn't get approved.

Why would they need state approval if it's on an Indian reservation? Isn't that sort of thing controlled by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington?

The reservations in MN had to get state approval to open casinos also. They were only allowed video machines and blackjack tables by the state. WI reservations were allowed all the table games, so I would drive across the border sometimes. I don't know why it is state controlled.

That's interesting. I always thought that state and local governmental authority ended at the gate like military bases.
