Some folks will put a little of the vinegar from garlic dill pickles (homemade, of course) in a bloody mary, but other than that particular concoction . . . have never heard of anything mixing a soft drink and pickle juice.
That combo sounds past disgusting.

Never heard of pickle juice in a soft drink and never heard of a NC native calling it "pop" either. I have relatives in SW Va and have spent a lot of time in Boone and have never heard anyone call it "pop" there either. My mountain kin just always asked me if I wanted a Pepsi! I guess that just goes to show that NC is a big state and there are folks who surprise you around every corner.

When I first moved there, I thought everybody was getting liquored up pretty early in the day.

I've enjoyed one, on occasion, for many many years.

Funny thing is, the closest Whataburger is in Georgia and they started in Texas. No wonder nobody knew about pickles in a drink.

Our North Carolina What-a-burger isn't the same as the Texas chain. Our What-a-burger has locations in Concord, Mooresville, and Mt. Pleasant.
Also, the witch doctor is made with cherry lemon sundrop with pickles on top.
