Default Animal Abuse at the Robeson County Animal Shelter in St. Pauls

Hi, I do some work nationally with different animal rescue organizations in the SC/NC region (don't ask how I got into this living in Chicago, it's a long story). Anyways, there are some atrocious activities happening at the Robeson County Animal Shelter in St. Pauls, NC. A rescue and animal rights organization is trying to bring these animal abusers to justice and has hired a legal team to help. They are seeking anyone with firsthand information who has been witness to any animal cruelty at this shelter to please DM me and I can provide the email address on who to contact to help put an end to the abuse.

This is a video of animal abuse taking place at this shelter. The shelter workers are 'heartsticking' conscious dogs, which should only be performed on sedated animals. Moderator cut: Video not appropriate for this forum.

Thank you for your help!

A local TV news story said that the video is more than a decade old.

The governor said she'd look into current practices: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=357553066782

What more do you want?

If they find no current abuses, there is no use for you to hire a legal team.

Support low-cost spay/neuter programs and educational efforts.

Yes, the video is from 1997 I believe. However, there is an animal organization working on a private legal case outside of the state's attorney's general office attempts to investigate any possible case. They are currently looking for witnesses to recent abuses to strengthen and build their case. This is separate from any investigations (if any) by the governor.

So why distribute a 13-year-old video? To rile everyone up? When you say, "THIS IS A VIDEO OF ANIMAL ABUSE TAKING PLACE AT THE SHELTER," it appears as if it is current.

You've lost credibility by doing that -- it's not a good thing to lose when you're trying to right wrongs.

It was past animal abuse that occurred at that shelter. I posted it specifically for credibility. I'm trying to help gather people who may have witnessed current abuse still happening at this shelter. If you cannot or wish to not help in any constructive manner, move along. It seems to me like you've got some axe to grind against anyone shining light on grotesque abuse of animals occurring here.

Nobody is forcing you to help in any way, and if you feel I've lost credibility by trying to gather information on a shelter KNOWN TO ABUSE ANIMALS, I won't lose sleep over that. I do this to help animals, not to score points on a message board.

Mike0520 whatever. Moderator cut: tos violation. Abuse on animals or people is wrong period. It does'nt matter if they are white, black, asian or blue with white spots.people are people . An as 'humans' maybe if nasty remarks about what are essentially 'your kind' were dropped,we could move on an put more effort into space exploration REAL space landings not foe ones. Anyways 'real americans' are just an eclectic mix of different nationalities, coloUrs,creed... most being german decent followed by irish. An what about the native american? Surely they have a place in this BIG PlANET we ALL call HOME!

Well...this kind of stuff has been going on for years in that area of NC. Just look up "Dr. Death." Until people start spaying or neutering their pets there is going to be overcrowding in shelters which allows this kind of stuff to go on and skirt under the radar. I work in rescue too and we actually SHIP some of our dogs up north because of the lack of adoptable pets up there due to their S/N programs, which is wonderful imo.

I have been networking on Facebook with hundreds of other people to do our best to save shelter dogs. My main focus is Robeson County because they had well over 5000 dogs go into the shelter last year. I do not know what percentage came out. In my own networking I have found that there are at least ten people who focus specifically on getting the dogs out of the Robeson Shelter. I myself adopted 3 dogs from there and transported them to me in Delaware. Everyone's efforts over the last month have been amazing. People are taking as much as a whole litter of puppies from places as far away as Santa Fe, NM, though most rescues are in the Eastern US. There are several businesses in Eastern North Carolina specifically for the transport of unwanted puppies to other states. Last year the Director of the Shelter was criminally charged with animal abuse. Those charges have since been dropped. The next Director started in September and lasted only 4 months before quitting. Her complaint was that she was not being given the tools she needed by the State Health Department.
Robeson NEEDS to spay/neuter every dog in the the county and funds must be found to get that done. I have seen the news not just about the Shelter, but a pet store owner there who burned a dog. I have read of dogs being frozen there and others buried alive there. The rest of the country sees this news too. We can try to relieve some of the stress from so many unsupported animals, but we cannot control the bickering between the Shelter and the Health Department. We cannot educate the ignorant of the need to take responsibility for the animals they own and their offspring. You are a poor county and will probably remain that way if you don't show respect for the many thousands of unwanted dogs you allow to be produced every year.
Animals have FEELINGS, they feel PAIN. Just look in any dog's eyes and you can see fear, or contentment or happiness. If your dog is producing puppies, you must also be responsible for those puppies. Your county will remain forever backward, and unsupported by the state, if the people in Robeson do not feel a responsibility for their actions and even for their inaction in being responsible for their pets.
Please take pet ownership seriously. It is not unreasonable to assume that the treatment you receive, from the Great Spirit or whatever God you believe in for the next life, will be similar to how you have treated your domestic animals in this life.
