Relocating to NC... advice PLEASE?!?!?!
My husband and I are looking to relocate from NY to NC in the next year, and I'm having some trouble choosing an area!! We're a young couple, he's in construction and I'm in the legal field, so someplace where both of us could find work is preferable. Also, regarding housing prices, ideally we'd like a nice house on a few acres for under $200k. Up here in NY that's unheard of, but I hear its possible down there?? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!

I guess that depends on your definition of "nice house" and how far away from civilization you are willing to live.
You aren't going to find what I would consider a "nice" house on a few (2+) acres within an hour of any NC metro area for under $200k. I'd be surprised if you found it under $300k.

I'd read the New York forums on this board to see what fellow NY'ers are saying about North Carolina and living in the south in general. There's a LOT of truth in those posts.

It won't be easy, but it's possible to find what you're looking for in the Charlotte area. Here are some areas that are still in the metro area, but rual:
Eastern Cabarrus Co., Lincoln Co. away rom Lake Norman, northern/western Gaston Co., western York Co., northern Iredell Co., eastern Union Co., and the southern/eastern Lancaster Co.

I am new to these boards....what are they saying???? We are considering moving, but I am concerned about some of the southern style. I am from the NY metro. Everyone keeps telling me the Raleigh area and NC is full of NY/NJ'ers.
thanks

First of all what do you mean by "the Southern style" and second why is it a concern?

Brian makes a good point. The "Moving to North Carolina" threads on the North Carolina boards are decidedly different than the "Moving to North Carolina" threads on the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut boards. You need to read both to get a balanced perspective. You need to listen to people who moved to NC and loved it and also listen to people moved to NC, hated it, and went home. There are plenty of both.
